I recently returned from participating in Barefoot in the Park, a juried fine arts festival in Atlanta. Over 50 quality artists participated at this year’s event. I used my new booth set up for the first time. Here's a photo. Because it was new, it took me 7 and a half hours to set up! (It took about half that to tear down.) The weather was nice and there was a decent crowd, but sales were slow for everyone.
Driving in Atlanta is a nightmare. Traffic congestion and construction is everywhere. Rude drivers constantly honk at other drivers for the smallest of transgressions. The road signs are tiny and impossible to see until you are right on them, by which time it is too late. There are numerous "turning only" lanes, especially near the expressways. These are poorly marked and, again, you don't see the signs until it is too late and you are blocked in by the traffic congestion. On Friday (after 7.5 hours of setup) I was trying to get back to the hotel, only to find that I could not make a left turn onto the road that led to the hotel. The next thing I knew I was on the expressway. The nearest exit was under construction and poorly marked. It led me to yet another expressway. When I finally got off the second expressway, I was on a busy highway that was poorly marked with tiny signs, had turning only lanes at many intersections (which I couldn't see until I was in them or in the lane next to them) and other drivers honking and whizzing by me. It was very difficult to find a place to get off and turn around. All in all, it took me 45 minutes to get to my hotel when it should have taken 10. Atlanta must be the only place on earth where you can make a U Turn in the middle of a major road, although you can't make a left at the same spot!
Recently I spent a week on Hilton Head Island, South Carolina with my son and a group of friends. It was Spring Break for the kids, so we packed up two rental vans and headed off. For the first time, the kids were able to share in the driving. We were somewhat trepidatious about turning them loose in a van of their own, but they did fine. As an added benefit, my parents were able to join us for a couple of days. While we were there, I did a little Plein Air painting and took lots of photographs. Here are a few photos from the trip.

Plein Air Study No. 2 - The clouds formed a triangle shape, almost like an arrow, and the trees were lined up in a row as well, prompting me to call this "Cloud March"
